ECHL | professioneel ijshockey
De ECHL (voorheen East Coast Hockey League) is een professionele ijshockeycompetitie in de Verenigde Staten en wordt beschouwd als een lager niveau dan de American Hockey League.
Overzicht
De ECHL en de American Hockey League zijn de enige ijshockeycompetities die worden erkend door de collectieve arbeidsovereenkomst tussen de National Hockey League en de National Hockey League Players' Association, wat betekent dat elke speler die een entry-level NHL-contract heeft en wordt aangewezen voor uitzending, zich moet melden bij een club in de AHL of de ECHL.
Het belangrijkste kampioenschap in de ECHL waarvoor de twee winnende teams van hun conferences spelen is de Kelly Cup. Er zijn momenteel 27 teams in de ECHL.
