1979-80 NHL seizoen

Het 1979-80 NHL seizoen was het 63ste seizoen van de National Hockey League. Eenentwintig teams speelden elk 80 wedstrijden. Dit seizoen werden vier teams toegevoegd die het seizoen ervoor als expansieploegen waren ontstaan na het uiteenvallen van de World Hockey Association (WHA). De Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, New England Whalers (later omgedoopt tot "Hartford Whalers" op aandringen van de Boston Bruins), en Quebec Nordiques traden toe tot de NHL, waardoor het totaal op 21 teams kwam. De twee andere WHA teams (Birmingham Bulls en Cincinnati Stingers) werden betaald om te worden opgeheven.
