Dit is een lijst van Stanley Cup-kampioenen, inclusief finalisten en uitdagers. De Stanley Cup, geschonken door de voormalige gouverneur-generaal van Canada Lord Stanley of Preston in 1892, is de oudste professionele sporttrofee in Noord-Amerika. De trofee, die oorspronkelijk de Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup heette, begon als een prijs voor Canada's hoogst geplaatste amateur ijshockeyclub. Tegenwoordig wordt hij uitgereikt aan het beste team in de National Hockey League, een professionele ijshockeycompetitie.

Opmerkingen
^ A. Hoewel de Montreal Victorias in 1895 de AHAC-titel wonnen, hadden de trustees van de Stanley Cup al een uitdaging aanvaard van de Cup-kampioen Montreal HC en Queen's University uit 1894. Als compromis besloten de trustees dat als de Montreal HC de uitdagingswedstrijd zou winnen, de Victorias de Stanley Cup-kampioenen zouden worden. De Montreals wonnen de wedstrijd uiteindelijk met 5-1 en hun rivalen uit de buurt kregen de Cup.
B. Bedoeld als een best-of-three serie, trokken de Ottawa Capitals hun uitdaging in na de eerste wedstrijd.
^ C. De wedstrijd van 31 januari (een zaterdag) stond om middernacht met 2-2 gelijk en de burgemeester van Westmount weigerde het spel op zondag te laten doorgaan. De wedstrijd werd gespeeld op 2 februari (een maandag) en de wedstrijd van 31 januari werd als ongeldig beschouwd.
^ D. Het grootste deel van 1904 waren de Ottawa Senators niet aangesloten bij een bond.
E. De Montreal Wanderers werden gediskwalificeerd als gevolg van een geschil. Nadat de eerste wedstrijd aan het eind van het reglement gelijk was geëindigd, 5-5, weigerden de Wanderers overtime te spelen met de huidige scheidsrechter, en weigerden vervolgens de volgende wedstrijd van de serie in Ottawa te spelen.
^ F. Victoria daagde de Stanley Cup niet formeel uit bij de Stanley Cup trustees. Toronto nam de uitdaging direct aan.

NHL kampioen
De Conn Smythe Trophy wordt toegekend aan de speler die tijdens de play-offs als meest waardevolle speler voor zijn team wordt beschouwd. Hij werd voor het eerst uitgereikt tijdens de play-offs van 1964-65.

Playoff-indelingen
- 1926-27 tot 1927-28: Nadat de NHL de enige divisie werd die om de beker streed, stond de play-off kampioen van de Canadese divisie van de NHL tegenover de play-off kampioen van de Amerikaanse divisie van de NHL in de Stanley Cup Finals.
- 1928-29 tot 1937-38: De league veranderde het play-off formaat: In de kwartfinale van de Stanley Cup stonden beide teams die op de tweede plaats stonden tegenover elkaar, evenals de twee teams die op de derde plaats stonden. Beide teams op de eerste plaats kregen een bye en gingen automatisch door naar de halve finale, maar moesten in die play-off ronde tegen elkaar uitkomen. Daardoor speelden twee ploegen uit dezelfde divisie af en toe tegen elkaar in de Stanley Cup Finale.
- 1938-39 tot 1966-67: Voor het begin van het seizoen 1938-39 werd de competitie ingekrompen tot zeven teams, waardoor de competitie een één divisie formaat invoerde. In het seizoen 1942-43 trok de NHL zich nog verder terug tot slechts zes clubs, waarmee een periode begon die bekend werd als het Original Six tijdperk.
- 1967-68 tot 1969-70: Als gevolg van de NHL expansie in 1967, herschikte de bond haar teams in de East Division en de West Division, met de play-offs zo geregeld dat teams uit elke divisie elkaar zouden ontmoeten in de Stanley Cup Finals.
- 1970-71 tot 1973-74: De bond veranderde het play-off formaat opnieuw, zodat een team uit de oostelijke divisie altijd tegenover een team uit de westelijke divisie kwam te staan in de Stanley Cup Halve Finales. Daarom konden twee teams uit dezelfde divisie tegenover elkaar staan in de Stanley Cup Finale.
- 1974-75 tot 1980-81: De competitie werd uitgebreid tot 18 teams en heringedeeld in twee conferenties: de Prince of Wales Conference en de Clarence Campbell Conference. Twaalf teams kwalificeerden zich voor het naseizoen, maar kregen een plaats in de ranglijst van 1-12, ongeacht de conferentie (de vier divisiewinnaars kregen een voorkeursbehandeling in de eerste ronde). Dit type plaatsingssysteem zou blijven bestaan nadat de league de play-offs had uitgebreid tot 16 teams voor het seizoen 1979-80.
- 1981-82 tot 1992-93: Het postseason format werd gewijzigd, zodat opnieuw de play-off kampioen van de Prince of Wales Conference tegenover de play-off kampioen van de Clarence Campbell Conference kwam te staan in de Stanley Cup Finals.
- 1993-94 tot heden: De twee conferenties van de league werden omgedoopt tot respectievelijk de Eastern en Western Conferences.
